MSD Animal Health’s Vaccine for Piglets Wins Animal Pharm Award for Best New Product

Animal Pharm Award Winner

MADISON, N.J., 30 January 30,  2020 – MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth, N.J., USA, today received the Animal Pharm Award for the 2019 Best New Food Animal Product for PORCILIS® Lawsonia Vaccine for piglets, the first, inactivated, one-dose, lyophilized (freeze-dried) intramuscular bacterial vaccine for piglets from three weeks of age against Lawsonia intracellularis.

This award is also the second year in a row that technology from our company’s Swine vaccine portfolio has won this award. Last year, we accepted this honor for the IDAL® family of devices as the ideal solution for implementing needle-free vaccination on the farm.

Lawsonia intracellularis is a bacterium that causes ileitis, a gastrointestinal disease also known as porcine proliferative enteropathy. As one of the most common gastrointestinal problems in global swine production, ileitis affects pigs’ growth and development, resulting in a sizeable negative economic impact. The disease is present on 80% to 100% of European farms.
